Sorry, but the likelihood of switching from a trading (or sales) position to an Investment Banking position (CorpFin or M&A) at the Associate level is ZERO.
It won't happen.
If someone tells you that they know this guy who knows this guy who knows another girl who did it, then they are either full of shit or you are hearing about an extreme exception.
The reverse (IBD to Sales or Trading)MIGHT be possible, but it's not common.
Figure your shit out before you get to that stage of your life. You can experiment as an analyst and do a little soul searching during your MBA program, but you'd better be ready to make an informed career decision by the time you get to the Associate level. |

I should have made it clear that I was referring to analysts only. However, I personally know people who have done this(GS S&T to Lehman & ML IBK to MS S&T).
