It's all a question of what you want to do -
do you want to trade or do you want to play with excel spreadsheets and prospectuses and pitch books?
Some people like the former, others like the later. While the later probably has more exit options, if you like to trade, the money is great and there's no lack of trading jobs (at the moment, at any rate).
I wouldn't worry as much about prestige as what you want to do. Either way, as you describe your choice, there isn't TOO huge a downside - if you try trading and hate it, worm yourself into a more analytical trader/analyst job on the buyside (for instance). If you hate CF, go back to school and become a trader, or try another job. You haven't lost very much either way in my opinion. |

Good comments so far. It's not like you can't change after working for a year or so. Provided you come from a BB, I have friends who didn't like banking and went to trading and vice versa. Its not a selling point, but it can be done.
