What does "the reason commissions are not hard...b/c the costs of running the business have to be accounted for" mean? I am a little confused by your post. |

"hard commissions" means that if you make $5m for the firm, the firm is obliged to pay you 10% of that in hard currency (cash/check/money order)
"soft commissions" means that if you make $5m for thefirm, that number is used to benchmark you against everybody else but you get paid from a fixed bonus pool. So if Joe made $3m for the firm, you will get paid more than Joe but your payout is not necessarily any fixed % of the revenues u've generated.
