Lower tier VCs like Summit, TA, etc. will give you no carry. If you are lucky enough to get a job at a higher tier fund such as GA or TCV, you can expect to at least have the ability to lever up on your own investment into the funds. These firms will also typically let you borrow the money to invest. The very top tier: KP, Benchmark, Hummer, Accel, etc., don't take underlings at all.
