In Reply To: The impression you give that MiF and MBA programs at LBS are almost the same content-wise is a false one. On average, MBAs and MiFs take the same courses ONLY 10-20% of the total load. As far as I know, MiFs one-year curriculum is based around finance core with little flexibility to choose electives (3-4 in the last term from a restricted list) MBAs, however, and that I know, like in America, take a broad core of courses in their first year (from management and finance to marketing and operations). In the second year MBAs can choose 12 electives from the full list. This means that some finance type MBAs will do all the MiF courses plus that amount in more general disciplines, i.e. strategy, marketing, entrepreneurship, etc. While others, for example media types, will only do the minimum amount of finance and will never meet a single MiF in their life. To the original poster: if you more questions, fire away. MBA Class of 2000 LBS (Finance and Entrepreneurship)
Message: I can only agree with the fellow 2000er below. The choice of electives in the MBA course is much wider. And if it's hard-core finance that you're looking for, you can choose many more finance electives in the MBA, including PhD courses in Finance. You also get the benefit of having done some courses other than finance which helps in terms of career choice. You'll see alot of MIFs in the finance electives if you want. It boils down to your background and objectives. Do you want 2 yrs vs 1 yr? Do you want a broad education? Are you interested only in finance after graduation? How much understanding of various business subjects do you have? Those are the questions you need to ask yourself. BTW, I think the MIF course is very good, I just preferred the MBA for the reasons above.
