Tech M&A Banker,
I have a relatively simple and straightforward question. (I've posted this on other boards but received no reply; I am hoping that you might shed some light.)
I am a Management Consultant that wants to leverage learned business skills and experiences to enter the Equity Research field. I hold an undergrad BBA degree (from a top 15 school - class of '98), but have relatively little financial modeling experience. (well, at least no current experience. Most of my models have been basic ones in my Finance classes.) I do have extensive knowledge in the technology industry, however, but little financial markets exposure.
My question is whether or not IBs will hire me as a Research Associate or an Assistant. Do they only hire MBAs for the Associate position, or can high performing undergrads join as a Assocs. What are the day to day activities of a Research Assistant. Do they get any type of modeling, research, and industry exposure (or are most of thier work administrative and clerical.)
What do you recommend. (Is it worth trying to fight for an Assoc. position, or start as an Assistant and if I'm good work my way to Associate in a year or so time.)
Any insights would help.
Thanks!
