I'm an American who recently accepted an offer from a BB in London.
London and NYC salaries are the same at the analyst level (GBP 28K + GBP 12-16K). I'm sure that they are similiar at the associate level.
London, despite your impression has a higher cost of living (second only to Hong Kong). Gas for example costs about $4.50 a gallon, so taxi fares are sky high too. Rent in Zone 1 for a decent studio is about $1,500 per month, plus Council Tax, TV tax, VAT and an outrageous gas bill. The tube alone is $5 for a roud-trip ticket! And cigarettes are $6.50 per pack. This place is not cheap and my salary could take me alot further in NY than here.
On the bright side, London has a great night life, very chilled people and a more personable atmosphere than NY. |
