Hello Tech M&A Banker,
This is the most interesting and informative board I have read so far. I would like to say thank you. I have a question, a stupid question, and I hope you don't mind. I am new in the job market for investment banking.
When people talk about a guaranteed bonus, what does it mean and why does the company offer guaranteed bonus, instead of refer it as a salary? I think bonus should be based on job performance, therefore I am not quite understand the rationale behind it. Would you please clarify this for me? Is a guaranteed bonus different or separated from signing bonus?
Thank you very much in advance. |

Tech M&A,
Can you provide me with some feedback on Bear Stearns. Obviously, I'm not looking for a business model or recent news relating to the company. Instead, I'm looking for your experience dealing with their people or at least things that you have heard. I remember you wrote a good review on DLJ a while ago, and thought it was great. Like DLJ, they are not at the cenit of i-banking, but they haven't been around for that long, at least in that department.
Something I would like to hear about is their clearing operation. I heard that it is extremely profitable and that the proceeds don't have to be fully reported. I also heard that they control 10% of the total trades of the NYSE. Does this not give them a very strong position in the market scene?
They're old school, but seem to be willing to change these days. An ad campaign just started and a new building, one entire block in a prime location, is currently in the works. Do you think there's a chance for a takeover on Ace's money machine?
Thanks
