In Reply To: You people all make me sick. I lived in Manhattan on a salary of $25K. I worked analyst hours, and got overtime, but didn't gross more than $35K, and I got no year end bonus. I had to leave because, yes, it is hard to live in Manhattan on that kind of money. Let me put it to you this way - every payday I was down to what i had in my pocket, and I lived frugally - no new clothes, slice of pizza for lunch and dinner, free booze whenever it was available. I wouldn't trade my time in NYC for anything, but anyone who tells you you won't need mommy and daddy's subsidy or won't go into debt to live just a NORMAL life is out of their mind. It just depends on your priorities - I wanted to live in Manhattan, and had to pay the price. To me living it the boroughs (unless maybe its Williamsburg or the Heights) makes no sense at all. So stop whining and do your comps!
Message: WHY MUST YOU LIVE IN MANHATAN!?! JESUS CHRIST! What "experience" do you gain by living there instead of NJ, Brooklyn, Upstate of Queens...NOTHING! It's the same all around. NY is all marketing (i.e. how many dumb schmucks can we get to move on this island). If you buy into it, not only are you a moron, but you will never be a successful banker (bankers on the other side of the equation)! NY is for poor suckers or people w/money to burn - there is no in-between!
