The DLJ package blows away the comp of every other bank on the Street. The other banks are going to have to do something, or all their junior talent is going to flee for DLJ.
Something similar to this just happened in the legal community. Some mid-tier (but up and coming) firm in Palo Alto raised their comp by almost 40%, and it sparked a national readjustment of associate salaries. Almost every major law firm in the nation bumped their salary by 30-40%.
Kudos for DLJ! They proved with this bold move that they are a leader in the investment banking community. Let's hope the other banks follow their lead.
