How important is GPA in the recruiting process for analysts in investment banking and sales/trading?
I go to one of the top 15 universities in the country, have taken on a number of leadership positions on campus and have summer experience in structured finance but my GPA is in the range of a 3.0. I'm looking for an analyst position in investment banking or capital markets at a BB investment bank or top boutique.
I'm wondering how negatively my GPA will affect me and whether there are any steps I can take to work around it. |

your gpa just killed most of your chances with the bulge brackets. the top boutiques may give you a look but unless your resume is outstanding, don't bank on it. the best thing you can do is to try to get yourself into Chase or some second tier bank and work your ass off. then, you may look into making the move from second tier to top tier. you just have to show them you can work and work hard and there's nothing better than experience for that.
