By industry knowledge, do you mean like, semiconductors, branded retail, etc.? I work with Securities, and my client based is diverse, so I can't really boast a depth of knowledge in one industry. I do, however, know securities - is this a drawback or an asset? Although all of my clients do diff. things, they are all startups, and I would want to do internet research - does that qualify as an industry or is it too general? |

I don't think being to general will hurt you. It sounds as if you could at this point plug yourself in most places as a top notch Assistant or low level Associate.
Covering internet companies is probably a worth while sector, and if you have contacts that would be the area I would first approach. If your going to be living and breathing your work for the next few years, it is always better to do something your interested in. Also if you can impress upon the analyst your want to someday be him or her; you can only better your position. Definately let them know if you plan to do the CFA exams or complete a part-time MBA, while your working for them.
