In Reply To: I have heard from other message boards that an Equity Research Assistant is nothing more than a secretary and that undergrads start there just to get the chance to move into an associates position. If all you are realy doing is admin work, what are you learning that would qualify you for an associate's position. Hypothetical situation: You work as an assistant at CSFB, Morgan, or whoever for 1.5 to 2 years, apply for an assocate's position (or B-school), and on your resume is: Equity Research Assistant, Lehman Brothers June 00 - June 02. Duties: Organizing research material. Providing administrative support to the analyst and associates. Arranging travel plans. Typing and Editing research reports. Screening phone calls. If I was looking for an associate, I wouldn't be interested in that person because they have no more relevent experience than a senior in College. I would appreciate any input, from those who have been in this situation or have seen this situation. Thank You
Message: This is disturbing, as I am starting as an assistant in June. Any comments?
