Looking for some advice here.
I have been an associate at a boutique ibank for about eight months (after two years at a top corporate law firm). My all-in comp for 2000 should be around 250, but could be as low as 200 if we don't do well and as high as 300 if we really score. I am in discussions with a few bulge firms to make a lateral move. (My current job sucks.) I probably will be considered a first year at any bulge firm I join. I do not know what they will offer me, but I am hearing all-in first year numbers that are lower than what I am making now. How should I proceed with the big guys?
What kind of "mid-year" first year signing bonus could I hope for?. What exactly does it mean to have your bonus bought out? Should I go with a guaranteed year-end bonus? I know in the long term I will make more with one of the bulge firms, but I want to leverage what I have going for me now.
Any advice is appreciated.
