I have a real problem with these postings. Here we have two people, a guy and a woman doing essentially the same thing - sleeping with their superiors to climb the ladder - and while he's getting this "go for it dude" attitude, she's being called a slut. What gives? They are essentially both doing the same thing. It really doesn't matter whether it's the boss or the client they're doing it with because these two people have equally little power. The boss and the client are the ones ultimately holding the strings. They're saying, unless you do it, you're not getting ahead - good luck trying.
It's pretty sad that you are seeing this client as some kind of a catch. You're wrong. Stop fooling yourself into believing that you are the one making the choices. That you would like to do it anyway doesn't erase the fact that she's saying IF you DON'T do it, she'll take her business elsewhere.
She's telling you to take it or leave it.
If you were a woman and this client was a man, we'd be talking serious sexual harassment. Why is it so unclear in this alternate scenario? All I can think of is that you all fail to see the power play going on here. You're still thinking that you as a guy have some power over this person - but she's older, she pulls the strings with business - she's obviously the one in control of this situation! What if she goes back on her word and says sorry buddy the deal is going for Ms. XYZ instead - but it was fun while it lasted? Transactions of relationships like this will NEVER be "real" like someone was trying to say. All moral issues aside, do it if you wish, but recognize that you're really under her thumb - just like the woman who's sleeping with her boss.
