Actually, it was my understanding that the Series 7 was a requirement for banking.
I agree that it is not a difficult test, and I can confirm that a month of cram studying is sufficient. But you will be trained for this test by your employer anyway and you shouldn't have to worry too much about getting this licence on your own.
Besides, I think you have to be sponsored by a firm to sit for the exam in the first place. I'm not sure, but I think that this is the case.
In any event, it's not much to worry about, and it's not that impressive once you pass it, unless you are a stockbroker taking it for the fifth time or something along those lines.

If you are going to work in S&T you must take the exam. You are also required to take it for IB. You must be sponsored by a firm that has a seat on the NYSE and be registered with the NASD. The information covers the basics of the securities industry and focuses less on the analysis and valuation of securities like the CFA does. The exam certainly opens doors for you. I decided to work abroad in trading after working as a broker. Every place that I faxed my C.V. to I got an interview very quickly thereafter.
