In Reply To: Thank you people. Ellen, you should be congratulated. Good investment bankers work hard but more importantly they are efficient... as someone who has been a banker for seven years since college at a BB firm, I have seen many people who work a hundred hours a week but don't accomplish anything and others who work 70 hours(less as they move about) and are incredibly efficient. I guarantee the latter are more succesful. If you don't strike a balance between your work life and personal life, you will burn out and be a horrible banker. Investment banking is not the be all/end all profession either... there are plenty of other jobs where you learn and accomplish just as much. You don't have to be a money hungry bastard with no life to succeed in this business. You do have to be creative, socially adept, highly efficient and love finance... I promise you that the idiots who work a 100 hr. week, have no family and friends and can't think beyond investment banking have none of these qualities.
Message: Man what are you talking about? First of all, this was a M&A related discussion and you ARE NOT from M&A. So go back to your backyard full of credir ratios, ratings and dumb models and only direct the word to a M&A expert when you have something more strategic and relevant to say. Efficiency has nothing to do with time, since the better you are, the more work people will give to you.
