Thank you people. Ellen, you should be congratulated. Good investment bankers work hard but more importantly they are efficient... as someone who has been a banker for seven years since college at a BB firm, I have seen many people who work a hundred hours a week but don't accomplish anything and others who work 70 hours(less as they move about) and are incredibly efficient. I guarantee the latter are more succesful. If you don't strike a balance between your work life and personal life, you will burn out and be a horrible banker. Investment banking is not the be all/end all profession either... there are plenty of other jobs where you learn and accomplish just as much. You don't have to be a money hungry bastard with no life to succeed in this business. You do have to be creative, socially adept, highly efficient and love finance... I promise you that the idiots who work a 100 hr. week, have no family and friends and can't think beyond investment banking have none of these qualities.

The nasty reactions of some bankers who were offended by Ellen and the "lazy analyst" stem from a lack of confidence in their respective jobs. Before it used to be that banking was the most respected and sure source to wealth. As our dot com world has proved YOU wrong, there are actually more fullfilling, educating and better paying jobs out there. Unfortunately, putting in hours doesn't increase your IQ so you are screwed either way. You are hereby condemned to a miserable life in banking. You might as well kill yourself NOW!
PS> how are those comps coming?
