"Rankings" only tell you so much. Below is a list of rankings for M&A Target Advisory in the U.S., YTD. If you looked at 1 year rolling, or M&A Acquirer Advisory, or deals completed vs. deals announced, you would see different rankings. So just because xyz firm is ranked #1 in a certain ranking does not mean that it is the best; it just gives you a general idea of who some of the players are.
--------------------------------------------
Advisers to U.S. M&A Targets
YTD through Feb. 11, 2000 (most recent I could find)
1. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter
2. Wasserstein Perella
3. Goldman, Sachs
4. Merrill Lynch
5. Salomon Smith Barney
6. Credit Suisse First Boston
7. Lehman Brothers
8. Donaldson, Lufkin, and Jenrette
9. Prudential Securities
10. Wit Soundview Corp.
Like I said, don't read too much into this (or other) such rankings. They don't necessarily mean you will get a better experience at bank #1 than you would at bank #6, esp. at the lower levels where you model and don't actually bring in the deals. If you want to do M&A, look at where you will get the most reponsibility early, and where you will get noticed by the senior bankers and clients. |
