In Reply To: I was just wondering. For all those people in i-banking right now...Could you please enlighten me with the truth? I'm hearing all this crap about only ivy-leaguers getting the top jobs on Wall STreet and it's getting me concerned. It seems ridiculous to me that the top firms would only recruit from the ivy leagues. I know 2 kids from my school who got into the ivy leagues(one of whom got a 1310 on their SAT's) and couldn't get into the honors program of UMich. I'm in the honors program of the University of MIchigan and I'm planning on applying(and getting in) to the undergrad b-school, which is ranked #1 along with Wharton and MIT, with my 3.8 GPA. Do I have a realistic chance? I mean, lesser firms are alright, but unless I get into a top firm, like GS or MSDW, I probably wouldn't want to work 100 hours a week and get paid crap. Also, I can't seem to find it anywhere on our school webpages, but does anyone know how heavily Michigan is recruited by the top firms, if at all? I know ivy-league schools are better, but how high are the top public schools, like Berkeley, UVA, UCLA, UNC, and obviously Michigan, regarded? I keep hearing stuff about Berkeley and UVA, but I've heard nothing about Michigan, which is weird considering its #1 undergrad b-school program. Thanx a lot for any comments.
Message: I think some strong firms recruit from your school, check with you career center. Get some good internships and you should be on your way.
