you're f*cking crazy. i don't know what shop you're at but it can't be a reputable i-bank. first of all, most of us eat lunch at our desks. second, there's no overtime - we work on a salary, d*pshit, and a year-end bonus. therefore, our pay is not a function of the number of hours we work, except in the sense that more hours might mean a higher bonus, although performance is not always tied to the number of hours worked. you say that socializing and sleep, etc. comprise the other 60 hours. buy a fucking clue, as*hole - i usually sleep 4-5 hours a night and get out maybe once every two weeks - and this for only a couple of hours on friday or saturday night. i think that you might be spouting this drivel just to get a rise out of bankers but i can't take that chance - you might also truly believe your lunacy so i count it as my duty as a banker to dispel these myths. my colleaugues and i typically put in b/t 80-90 hours a week - it can be as nice as 70 hours and as bad as 120. but if you're working less than 80 hours on a consistent basis, you're not pulling your weight and it will be reflected in your bonus - it just isn't possible to get all of the work done, no matter how efficient you are. but know this: after two, possibly three years at 90 hours/week, i, along with other bankers, will be prepared to do ANYTHING: we will be the financial elite of the world, able to model any M&A scenario and capable of working as many hours a week necessary to achieve monetary success. banking is not for the weak - it is for the strong, the diciplined and, more often than not, the ruthless. to all of you planning on or thinking about a career in i-banking: "the investment banking business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. there's also a negative side." |

You're in for a rude shock my friend. After 3 years in IB no good bschool will take you. I hate to tell you, but IB is VERY passe. Only second class chumps go into IB and they end up nowhere.
