I have been working at a top tier strategy consulting firm for 2.5 years and am now interested in moving into I banking. I have no MBA but have recently been promoted to Associate. How how heavily would my experience be discounted if I moved to an I bank. Would I enter as a 2/3rd year analyst?
I'd appreciate any advice. |

DUDE..DON'T GO INTO BANKING!!!!
I just saw that new CSFB Tech Group commercial on CNBC. The commercial goes something like this, "MAN-'I am saving you a wake up call. Can you draw up a merger agreement on 2 hours of sleep' WOMAN-'Let's get this deal done.'" Why would anyone work for a company that boasts on how little sleep its employees get?
I spent the summer at a bulge-bracket bank & can tell you that this ad is true for MDs only. You won't be one of the aforementioned characters. This is fictional at the analyst & associate level. If you are an analyst (even 3rd year), you will be nothing but a slave. Trust me, it is not worth it. Forget banking and goto a boutique, you will learn 2x. Also, with the hands-on experience you will get at a small firm, you can always be hired into banking as an associate in the future if desired!!!
Banking is overrated....these banks know that and as a result are EXPLOITING the hell out of top college students!!!
