I left the life of an analyst and associate investment banker for all the reasons posted on this board to become a real estate developer. I made more money on one real estate deal than 5 years as an analyst and associate at an investment bank working less hours with a great quality of life! |

Hi,
I am 40% finished with my MBA from a top 10 B-school. My background is engineering (undergrad and experience). I am considering a career change potentially into I-banking. Since I'm so new to this field (business in general), I am still looking for input from people who are in it.
What is so glamorous about I-banking? Besides the monetary rewards, what intangible benefits and / or perks does I-banking provide? What inner fulfillment can one achieve from this career path?
What doors does I-banking open to you after 2 or 3 years of hard work that might otherwise not be available? Do the benefits outweigh the cost?
I have a great interest in finance. Are there any similar fields to I-banking that don't virtually eliminate any real possibility of a life outside of work?
How does sales and trading compare with I-banking in terms of monetary rewards, hours worked, and potential for future growth? What about e-commerce or real estate developing / investing?
Thanks everybody,
I appreciate your wisdom. I look forward to chatting with you in the weeks to come.
