Blackstone is a specialty i-bank which also functions in certain capacities along the lines of "merchant banking"; it has very strong, favorable connections to Sony. It's fairly recent (about a decade and a half), and it's founder used to be senior-level guy at one of the major investment banks; currently he is part of the "trilateral commission" and some other thing called the "foreign economic development council" or something which basically tries to take over the world from behind the scenes; other members include Alan Greenspan and a good portion of the "who's who" of Washington and the investment world. They're also smart enough to be looking toward investment banking deals in under-developed areas like Southern area of Africa / South Africa at a time when most "typical" investment banks are still scoffing.
