Message: Bruh - first let me apologise for engaging in the same kind of foolishness that goes on elsewhere on this board. You really do need some advice and not being an i-banker, I can only give you so much. A number of my friends and brothers are or were analysts with major i-banks, and they are all, except for the most money-hungry, overworked and socially isolated. Nothing should stop you from pursuing your dreams in financial world, but understand that you will not have much support. I suggested joining one of the major greek orgs as way to get socalized into the culture of black professionals and get access to the kind of contacts that your white colleagues simply will not extend to you. Inroads should be helpful to you too. Plenty of of blacks in finance make of a point of distancing themselves from racial identity in an effort to be judged on merit alone. If you are determined enough, that is an alternative, but one with a price. Read Joe Jett's autobiography to see what I mean. Reagrding pledging, the likelihood is high that your grades will drop some, but good line brothers will do what is necessary to get you your library time. You do have the option of joining an alumni/grad chapter - that probably would interfere less with your studies, but the trade-off is you lose the inensity of the initiation. There are lots of ways to get into Wall Street. As a high achieveing, focused young black man, you will find firms that will be happy to take you whether you are a Harvard MBA or from UMich. And you may find Harvard or Columbia or Chicago will still take a chance on you with 3.7 instead of a 4.0. best of luck
