In Reply To: You guys are hilarious? The differentiation between the top schools are so small that I would not spend my time debating on who is no 1 or no 2 etc.etc.. I?m back in business school (a so called ?top 5? school according to all your definitions) and I worked 3 years as a Trader in a 2nd-tier firm (once again, according to all your definitions)..I made $0.5 million for myself in 3 years?and if u ask me why I was successful, it?s because I can spot trends? If you?re a bright young kid coming out of B-school in the mid-80s, I-banking was THE business?Think about how the internet will revolutionize the flow of information and push down the margins of the I-banking business and it will only take an idiot to realize that I-banking can only last for 5 years maximum from here. In the 70s, Goldman was considered 2nd-tier, and a very much domestic driven bank? What made them incredibly powerful was their foresight of how the international markets were evolving. If you were an MBA coming out of school then (I?m sure the MBA rankings then were all completely different if they even had any), would you be fighting for a spot at Goldman ? If you want your career to last 20 years from here, concentrate on skills rather that prestige. Big structures are the thing of the past. If you want to go for an MBA, and hope to learn something. Think about the following: 1) Forget about general management. Any school that focuses too much on General Management is a thing of the past. 2) Focus on High-Tech and quantitative skills? (Use them as tools?i.e?you can be in the finance business. But what areas in finance will benefit from technology? What are trends and where are people putting their savings? What are the I-banks that recognize how much the world will change from here?) Good luck!
