I don't wish to discuss which B-school I have been admitted to, but it is one of the "top five". I'm sure you know the schools. Undergrad GPA was 3.75, GMAT was 700. You are absolutely right about work experience after undergrad. I am no admissions expert, but I am sure that my grades and GMAT had little to do with my acceptance. I believe that work experience and outside activities made the difference for me. I was very hard on "ranter", but he was right about the value of certain certifications. I just don't believe that you need 20 of them, I don't believe that they replace an MBA or a prestigious undergrad degree (which I admittedtly will never have). In any case, do not kid yourself, an MBA from a prestigious university matters. It opens doors, it teaches you skills, and it certifies that you were qualified to get into the program. If you can get in a top program, then by all means do so. Whether graduates from top schools are the smartest and most capable recruits in the U.S. is debatable. It is hard to debate, however, that corporate America thinks they are, and the hiring trends support this fact. |
