In Reply To: I need some advice. Here is my story. I am going to be a Junior in undergrad in the fall. I am in the IU Kelley School of Business majoring in Finance. I am trying to get into investment banking. I do plan on going to grad school. I want to get a JD/MBA. What I really need to know is how do I go about breaking into I-banking as an analyst or possibly a summer intern. I don't graduate for another two years and have a long way to go. But I am hoping that some experts in the field can help me with my problems. I have interned in commercial banking for 2 summers, but it is just not my cup of tea. I want the excitement of NYC. Should I try for an internship next summer? My GPA is currently about a 3.4/4.0. I hope to graduate with about a 3.55. Do I have any chance of breaking into I-banking, or should I just settle for becoming a commercial lender? Also, I love law and want to go to law school. Will this help/hurt my chances as an I-banker? I have always heard that no one stays in I-banking for more than three or four years. Why? What do people do coming out with an MBA and I-banking experience. I have I lot to learn and a lot of questions that need to be answered. Thank you all in advance for your time and thoughts. ps If anyone can help me with an intership for next summer, please give me someone I can send my resume to. Thanks a bunch
Message: If you really want to be a i-banker, you shouldn't be asking whether to intern next summer or not. You should be out there trying to get the internship and you should be contacting alumni in the field.
