Your bad credit can be held against you as a way to discredit your ability to manage your personal finances. If your integrity/ability is in question, they may prefer a candidate whose background is "cleaner". What you can do: amass any documentation that shows you have the situation well in hand, you've paid off the debts, etc. This will help them see you in a more favorable light.
