In Reply To: Hi. I was interviewing at a small startup but I still wore a suit because I had always been told that no matter what the job, you should always wear a suit. I had also been taught to be talkative in an interview but still fairly formal. However, the person interviewing me was wearing shorts and put his feet up on a chair and kept tapping his pen. Now, does this mean I can loosen up too? I mean, should I have ripped off my tie and been like, "thank god" or something? I guess I'm worried that I came off too stiff but it seems to be a no win situation. I just don't think I'd feel right walking in without a tie or anything. Does anyone have any suggestions for the next time this happens (I'm applying to a bunch of dot-com's)? THanks.
Message: I work at a Dot-Com. Prior to the interview I asked some friends about the company and solicited interviewing tips. The major suggestion was on dress - no wearing of suits. Business casual is the order of the day which seems to mean dress slacks/skirt, polished shoes and a long-sleeve shirt.
