We dotcommers aren't in unions, but we can take some advice from them. The company that I work for tried to impose non-compete and non-solicitation agreements on us (although they weren't nice enough to give us options along with the agreements -- they just said to sign em). If we had opposed this individually it wouldn't have worked. So a couple of coworkers and I got together and opposed the contract en masse. It worked. We were able to renegotiate some of the more aggressive terms. Good luck. |

thanks for all the great suggestions & feedback.
the tough thing is that i do like what i do here. it's a good job and they've treated me well. i am just hestitant about signing anything that will limit my options for the future.... things can change quickly, and you never know when the time to switch jobs may come.
did a little research and the state law is vauge... it says that anything within a "reasonable" distance is legal for a non-compete agreement.
but i will take the advice about collective bargaining. many of my coworkers are unhappy as well.....
