Message: Management shortcomings in startups have a lot to do with the rapid pace in which dot-coms have to grow, the age of the managers, and their overall experience levels. It takes a long time to learn how to effectively manage people. There are not too many short cuts for this. Not everyone who is smart or good at his vocation can effectively manage people, different skill sets. Most importantly the "management of expectations" is something the dot-com world has been poor at but is now learning more about.
