In Reply To: I work for a dotcom right now, but I know that once we start facing competition from Boston, NYC, Silicon Valley, etc., we're gonna be f*cking toast. I'm just here to get the experience and then I'm going to work as a consultant. That way I get PAID for every hour I work. With respect to dotcoms and what's going in the market, the operational word is 'accountability'. Look into it. :-) Investors want to see results, the days of them throwing tons of money into unproven business models are rapidly coming to an end, my friend. The bubble is going to burst sooner or later. And hoping that the dotcom you work for has a successful IPO is a lot like hoping to win the f*cking lottery. You gots a better chance of being struck by lighting.
Message: Like Anonymous, I also worked for a dot-com. Unfortunately, the start-up I joined six months ago had a great concept. However, like a lot of dot-coms, poor execution and bad management took the company off-course -- far away from future investors. So, now the company is dot-com dead. But, all is not lost. I joined the company to add Internet experience to my resume and have discovered that when the word "Internet" was added to my resume that my salary "street value" and job prospects increased. So, perhaps six straight months of 80-hour weeks will pay off after all. Not in stock options that convert to millions at IPO, but into a long-term career at a higher salary in a more stable and sane environment.
