Dude,
You're looking to do a summer internship, i.e., you're going to be just a temporary lackey-boy, and you seriously think you can get stock options? Are you nuts, or what? You get offered options when you make the committment to become a full-time employee. Man, what have you been smoking?? |

I disagree with the last message. I think you could get options if you really want them. But I would suggest you not bother. Nobody's going to give you meaningful options for summer work, so you're essentially buying a lottery ticket. In other words, for the small amount of options you'd be getting, the company would have to be the next Yahoo for you to make any real money. And there may not even be a next Yahoo.
If you ask for options, they'll give them to you and reduce your salary. Then you'll have the headache of dealing with them, reading the paperwork and all, and then holding on to them for a couple of years.
Take the cash and experience, and then next year if you really want options you'll have plenty of opportunity.
