Many people seem to be complaining about there being an overflow of graphic designers. More troublesome is the quality of work produced by some of them.
Almost everytime I open a magazine or read a newspaper, I am bombarded by bad design layouts that look like they were done in Word Perfect, complete with crappy clip art and tacky typography. The same kind of bad design can be seen in any CD store. Too often do I run across CD packaging that looks as if the designer just discovered the PhotoShop filter menu and decided to use every last one of them.
The real issue is that there are too many bad designers. Why is this? Because they have lost or may not have had one of the most important skills: compromise without losing your or your works' integrity.
