In Reply To: Good luck with the iXL interview. I briefly described the interview process in a previous post. Case Study questions with a final assignment during my last interview where I had to develop an internet business model for an industry of which I was familiar. During the last interview I had to present my idea to them during which they asked tough questions. Many of the questions were very focused on technology and explored my knowledge of the technology necessary to carry out the proposed strategy. I did receive an offer. I turned it down and went to another e-business firm. The money was comparable to what I had been earning after two years at a top strategy firm, the travel was minimal though. iXL and all of the top e-business firms are looking for people who desire an opportunity to cash in on the internet wealth that is being created today. The employee stock purchase programs at these firms can be quite lucrative, something not available to me at a partnership-type firm. My reason for turning iXL down? First, what are these guys? Are they an internet consulting firm or are they developing web-based businesses?? They have this financial business that adds significant revenues to the balance sheet. Ask them the % of busines generated from consulting. I never got a straight answer. Second, a large percent of vulture capital ownership here. Third, and I mean no offense if you are one of them, most of the people I would be working with were from Andersen and they were pretty arrogant. It just rubbed me the wrong way.
Message: Thanks for your feedback -- I will let you know how my interview went. By the way, which group did you interview with? I am interviewing with their Financial Services Consulting Group. They are a group of thirty or so ex-consultant focused on strategic business issues. I am not a technologist and they recognize that. What I would bring to the table is financial industry background and structured problem solving skills not technical know how. I am sure I would not be able to handle the tough technology questions...
