In Reply To: ...not really. I am quite happy with my work at home freelancing. It is not getting me rich, (yet) but it IS paying the bills. It is not for everyone and those seeking instant gratification are in the wrong field. Many folks decide to "work at home" and find that it is REAL work and become somewhat complacent, thus productivity suffers. If you do not possess an extremely high level of self-motivation, then I would agree, go back to your desk job. I left my full time job in Feb. 2000 and have no regrets. The jobs are out there and extremely easy to find. Retaining them is another story. One must put in the hours and pay your dues, but if you really want to make it work, the only thing holding you back is yourself.
Message: I have seen plenty of dot coms pop up, spend money like it is going out of style (you know the drill, catered lunches, fancy offices, happy hours, lots of perqs) and then SURPRISE- the money runs out. If you are looking at joining a dot com, look at the spending habits of the place. Unless a company is printing money, they should be careful where it goes, and those places that have the overly nice bennies may not be around later. Just my observation...
