Message: I had mixed feelings about working for IR. I worked about 50 hours a week and that seems to be the norm. The pay was decent for a summer job, but you get a monthly salary instead of an hourly rate. This means no compensation for those extra 5-10 hours a week you work. To be honest, I really have no interest in IR products and this could be the problem. It's very old-fashioned firm in that the only women working there were in HR or admin assistance. Maybe they don't have a lot of female applicants but I was surprised at the disparity. There is also a ton of nepotism. An earlier post said that employees are neglected at IR, and I agree. My manager was hardly ever in the office and people this busy should not be assigned interns! I didn't need a babysitter, but its nice to have someone to learn from once and a while. The internship program is not streamlined and I never received formal feedback about my performance. Thank God that there were other people there who picked up the manager's "slack". I saw a few young people (ie: 20-30 years old) who felt the same way and are interviewing at other companies. When I observed mainstay employees, it seemed like a very "out there on your own" environment. No one really wants to help eachother out, people tend to be nice to your face but be quick to backstab. Typical of any big company I think. The working environment is sort of dull and depressing. People are usually professional but also very casual in their mannerisms and language. People cursed a lot. The cubicles were so tall that you could pretty much avoid everyone; this is what many people did in fact! It was a good idea at the time, but its not for me. Any other past interns wanna share?
