I had a recruiter lie to me and intimidate me into agreeing to take a job interview. Anyone else had an experience like this? Is this common? |

I run an IT consulting and staffing office. I would certainly want to know if one of our recruiters did this to a candidate. It is simply unacceptable and unethical. If this is not an independent recruiter, talk to the branch manager or contact their main office to let someone know. Recruiters like this are detrimental to our industry, and no reputable company wants one of their employees acting in this manner.
Choose your recruiter wisely. When you find a good one, they can be an enormous assett to your career. Look for someone who listens to you, wants to meet you personally, and wants to know what types of companies, jobs, contracts, career path you are looking for. A good recruiter wants to know what positions you have already applied for so they don't waste time crossing the same bridges. A trust element has to be built to get to that point. There are some fabulous resources out there, and like any industry, a number of rotten apples. You will notice that the bad recruiters jump from one company to the next faster than you change jobs.
