In Reply To: Make it a functional resume, and consider lopping off some of those 70's jobns. They have little to do with what you are doing now, don't they? I would also look into learning Java well, particularly Swing (user interface) and Corba (for integration work). Also servlets and Enterprise Java Beans, HTML and XML. You can do it on your home PC. Sun has fantastic free Java tutorials on www.sun.com. I am coming up on 20 years in the business and am always changing my skillset, learning something new. You have to in this biz, sis!
Message: If I present a resume that is not chronological, I am told that I need one that is. When I left off the earlier jobs, I did start to get replies about possible employment, but no one was interested after I filled out the forms that require you to give ALL experience and dates of college degrees. Without a single exception, whenever I have asked a recruiter or potential employer if I would be considered if I learned Java, C++, or whatever they want, the answer is ALWAYS, "Well, no, we only want people with at least 3 years experience". I have not seen any suggestions such as yours from people who state that they are actually in my position, and that their suggestions worked. Not that one or two instances would prove a general rule, but with NO such instances, it is certainly not convincing.
