HI,
I wanted some advise regarding a current situation that I am facing right now. Currently I am working as a VB/SQL programmer, although my department uses oracle as well, but there are other people working on Oracle. we were just informed that one of the oracle programmer will be leaving our group and will be relocating to another city thus making a space for one person, and since eventually I would like to work with Oracle as well as become more efficient with VB and SQL server. Don't get me wrong, I am really happy at what I am doing as currently my position allows with a great opportunity to enhance my current skills and also learn the business but I would like to position myself to learn more so my question is how do I let me supervisor know that I would like to also do what the other person(who is leaving) was doing, and show him motivation to learn more instead of giving him the feeling
that I am unhappy at my current position.

VB and SQL Server are hot right now and I would be sure to have at least 2-3 years experience before moving on. Knowledge of SQL is important in Oracle. I would ask to receive training in Oracle. This would show your interest in learning new technology and give you the opportunity to learn.
Best regards...
