I have been recently made 2 job offers. One is w/ Arthur Andersen w/ a salary of $48,500 yearly as an experience staff in their Risk Consulting group and the other w/ a startup broadband company as a Software Engineer w/ a salary of $64,000. I'm confused as to which job would be better for me when keeping my future in mind. Arthur Andersen has name, great benefits, tuition reimbursements and a stable future to offer to me along w/ a choice of working on various types of projects. The startup company is paying me $14,000 more to start off, it is a highly technical position working w/ the latest in technology in a small group of 4 people. How should I pick the right job for my future??? |

First, the Big 5 can and do lay off folks at the drop of the hat. yet, on the other hand, Start-up Companies are almost a dime a dozen now.
On the surface at least, both opportunities seem to be leading you into a good "mix" of projects, technology, and associated challenges.
In my opion, Broadband (and wireless) are the areas to be associated with.
From an Corporate Infrastructure approach Anderson is certainly more stable. I recummend you research several things regarding the start up company.
1. Business Model White Paper
2. Past Revenues and Money available (on hand).
3. Venture Company (if involved) histroy with prior start-ups.
4. Composition of Board of Directors (who they are, etc)
5. Mission and Vision statemetn.
6. Finally, do you believe the CEO, COO, CIO etc. In summary, does what the company propose in via broadband pass the common sense test?
Throw me in that Briar Bush!@!@
