In Reply To: Sorry for not checking up for a while as I have been travelling (some of us work for a living). It wasn't my intent to ruffle your feathers, but I was trying to portray a realistic overview of Hong Kong. I thought that most of my comments reflect HK quite accurately, including that comment. Most people in HK are truly wonderful and genuine, but on the margin I have never seen such greed and selfishness. In my opinion HK has some of the most materialistic, unreasonable and status driven people I have ever met. And that goes across race - I think HK itself breeds it. If you have never dated a girl in HK who fits that bill, then congratulations. I have been dating a wonderful girl here for almost two years, but at least two girls I dated when I first got here were clearly looking at passport and EP (earning potential). Calling me racist is way off as I never said they were Chinese - one of the girls who only wanted a rich white guy was a white Canadian girl. I was only saying it exists. And for the record "hangs" is not plural where you used it? I hope you're not a banker?
Message: As a Hong Kong professional female US grad, I agree with your opinion about the materialistic, status-oriented culture in Hong Kong. Greed is not confined to Hong Kong, however. In the United States, blind ambition in Wall Street and dot.com equity casinos are cosmetic manifestations of greed. Before you allow your frustrated experiences cloud your perception of Hong Kong, you need to come to terms with this: your previous experience with Hong Kong women will depend on who you mingle with, how selective you were, and what you were looking for, amongst other things. Bottom line: I am glad you have grown wiser from mishaps. Don't we all? Congratulations on finding a decent girl. Best of luck in meeting more down-to-earth people in Hong Kong. Trade a few Lan Kwai Fong nights for Community Service Days. Sincerely, Anonymous.
