How are the Deutsche and Merrill offices in Seoul especially in structured finance/ABS. From my experience, MS is the bomb and Lenihan is running a tight ship over there. Also, any private equity/distressed opps available for US based KA associates/vp w/ just conversational-level korean language skills? i heard several direct invest opps were opening up recently in Seoul. thanks |

If you want to kick it in Seoul, you have to go PE buyside. Here's the scoop:
Carlyle, Newbridge, Lonestar, Cerebus, Colony, AIG, UBS. they do PE, Distressed RE, CDO-type stuff all-in-one. If you don't recognize all the names, you need to do the homework. These are the real players followed by GS/MS/Citi/MorChas/ING principal invest. groups. StrucFin in Korea is better than most other asian countries but compared to US/European mkts still a joke. Kamco, Asiana Air, Samsung AR vanilla issuances circa 100MM USD is about all there is and far and few between at that. Good news for you, if you can get in on the on the buyside, you don't need to know any korean period. If they want your money, they will speak & understand your english. Good Luck
