In Reply To: All you have to do is get 10,000 or so associates to go along with you. Good luck. http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB112243080451697041-MS8mHyS2ZgDFlZfshzLaFxCO3aY_20060727.html?mod=blogs Funny... for all the "let's form a union" blather out here, it doesn't seem like anyone has had the stones to make the first move. Don't know how to do it? Google "how to form a union". Those unions are just waiting there to take your money... Just make sure the crooks organize the competitors while they are at it. And be a little more intelligent that calling anyone who disagrees with you a "tool" or "whore". It's very tiring and just shows your immaturity. It's a free country. You want to form a union, you have every right to do so. If I want to oppose a union because I think they will kill the business, I have a right to say so. If I hate unions, it's because my experience with the UFCW and the AFT sucked and I watched money get pulled out of my wallet for no reason at all, while I watched poor performers who happened to have seniority get all the benefits. And as for the other thread where I asked for success stories from companies that were unionized... yawn. UPS was non-union for many years and only became unionized when they dominated the package delivery business. The union's strike a few years ago almost killed the company. SBC / AT&T is a utility. Those companies have no options. They can't offshore the guy who is climbing a pole and they get to set their rates in what is effectively a monopoly -- so they can offset higher wages and benefit costs with rate increases.
Message: What working Hewitt (America) needs is to get organized. But, how can we? The majority of folks are "virtual" and the ones that are not, don't talk, they just sametime. Organization requires people to get out of their comfort zones and stand up. If the folks working 60+ hours would just say no, that would stop, but as long as people work 60+ and the job is done, mgmt does not care - they just know the work is done. Here is a way to say it without being put on a performance plan, when questioned as to why you are no longer working 60+ hours, you quote the Hewitt Work/Life Balance propaganda. Of course, the best time is before you work 60+, then you say, Ok, If I take this on, what do you want me to stop working on because I am only one person and this is work for 2 people. This way it shows you are willing to work, and giving them the option to choose what project fails.
