I didn't demand that anyone quit, I asked nicely (read: please).
But to answer your question, "Why quit?": To me, it is relatively simple.
1. If I were captured in a hellish prison and had the opportunity to leave, I would. Or if I chose to stay, I would keep my comments to myself. Afterall, who is the fool for staying?
2. Your negativity is not wanted nor needed; we should all focus on moving the firm forward. You are either unwilling or unable. In either case, you should move on. If you are willing and able, I encourage you to stay and give it your best shot; you can count on me for support.
Hope that is simple enough.
As for the Vault, you are right; the Hewitt board has become about "spewing venom." I would like to see us change that as there are no rules limiting comments to "negative."
Unfortunately, this board has been dominated by a few people who have plenty of complaints but little in the way of suggestions.
I am hoping there are other casual observers like me who are willing to make a difference and will step up. |

Why should anyone quit when Hewitt is actively laying people off? Why not stick around for the "layoff lottery" instead of making it easier on the firm by quitting? All attrition is good attrition according to Hewitt management, and attrition if preferable to severance in terms of cost savings (at least, that's the message from Hewitt leadership these days). If I had another opportunity, I would take it. But most people, like me, are just sticking around for the short-term in order to find that other better opportunity. No one wants to rush into working for another Hewitt-type firm.
I find your optimism naive and nauseating, but I have to live with it in much the same way you have to live with my negativity. Like offshoring, that's the new reality for Hewitt. Deal with it.
Dominated by a few people who have plenty of complaints? Maybe back in 2000 it was only a few people. However, there are many, many more people complaining today, and many of those folks were die-hard Hewitt fans only a few years ago (meaning not everyone on this board is a twentysomething whiner). Oh sure, you get your moron posters out here; every message board has that (check out Hewitt's message board under Yahoo! Finance - similar problem there). But, the messages here have been way too consistent from too many unique souces to be the result of a few "whiners". People feel helpless and powerless against Hewitt leadership. They have nowhere else to go and, as a result, are being taken advantaged of. Blaming the victim is fruitless and pointless, yet Hewitt apologist continue to do just that.
You encourage me to stay and give it my best shot? And I can count on you for support? How?!! Who are you? How will you support me? Why should I care?
Your Disneyland pep talk is as unwelcome as our negativity on this board. But, since this a public board, and we are all free to leave whatever graffiti we choose to leave behind, then I guess we have no choice but to tolerate one another - whether it's on this message board or in the workplace. Get used to it, or take your own advice and move on.
