I hate Hewitt with a passion; it is the most miserable company to work for. I tolerate working there in order to take my time in finding a better job elsewhere - no sense rushing into another "Hewitt" situation with another employer. The company is managed by short-sighted, overpaid incompetent executive leaders that are as compassionate as Nazis and are expert bullshitters when it comes to corporate communications. They're hypocrites - they claim to be experts in HRO and in "making the world a better place to work" and that "people are a firm's most important assets" when these guys would dump all of us and have 98% of Hewitt's opertions in India if they could just transition the work there faster. I despise the fact that these clowns attempt to meet quarterly financial results and subsequently get rich on executive compensation at the expense of hard working associates. If it weren't illegal, these guys would own slaves to do the work (instead of treating all of us like indentured servants), since slaves could be run into the ground without regard for labor laws, and we would all be listed as a real asset on the balance sheet (like other property and equipment).
I'm miserable because I work at Hewitt. Every day I feel like a chump for showing up and working for a company that goes out of its way to screw me. I tolerate it to buy more time in my job search, but these jackasses are making it harder for me every day.
The new food sucks. I refuse to pay for food priced at mini-bar/convenience store prices, despite the Hewitt discount. I resent the fact that Aramark held back with anything remotely resembling decent food and service until after the change from free food to a "cash bar" cafeteria. I also resent Araramark's insistence that plastic utentsils and condiments are for "paying customers only", and that Hewitt's policy regarding adequate microwave oven capactiy involves building a business case to justify adding an additional microwave (like 15-20 minute wait lines wasn't a convincing enough "business case"). And, God help you if you go out and eat elsewhere, since you'll lose your parking space right after you leave. The message from Hewitt is simple - if you must eat (which we discourage because it doesn't help us "serve our clients"), we insist you stay here and purchase the Aramark food. Anything is else is unacceptable, and we'll make your life miserable to prove our point. Losing the free food benefit is one thing, but this is new approach to food service is the poke in the eye after the swift kick in the balls.
This place is demoralizing, soul crushing, insulting, degrading, and pathetic. Things have deteriorated significantly in the last year or so, and have been deteriorating for the last few years. Management is desperate to save their asses, and as they run Hewitt into the ground, they're going to take everyone with them. 2006 will be even worse here. The only bright spot will be when the firm gets acquired; how much worse could it get here?
