In Reply To: As with most of you, I could write a novel about what's happened over the last 5-10 yrs. Not a Cult Member was correct with what they said. Engagement does matter and it impacts the bottom line, especially for a company like us that provides a service. Does it really matter the motive why a company wants to focus on engagement? No. What matters is what makes money. Making sure you have engaged employees will help you make money. That should be a good thing for employees. Obviously, this is not happening and has not been for some time. As an employee, you are managing yourself as your own business. Walk away and take your skills with you if you think the grass is greener...the benefits better. Start your own business if you think you can do it better. I agree it's tougher today to try and help this company make changes as the powers that be are not listening to the right people (or haven't been..maybe this is changing?). I agree, many people knew (and strongly voiced) two years ago that engagement was not an issue with the managers. In typical fashion, reality did not come into play and the issue was not assessed correctly. They are backed into a corner, and now have to deal with the true issues (and there are many). If they would have listend to the right people two years ago and appropriately addressed the issues, some of this could have been avoided; profits would be better and costs lower. However, stop complaining, and start doing something about it if you have all of the answers. What have you got to lose. HA still has a good product and good people. Give the leader credit for coming out and doing what he did. I would agree there weren't many options, but they decided to tackle it head on. They could have avoided it altogether and not come forward and left everybody guessing. They and he did not. Would you?
Message: Dale said that he would hold himself and executive leadership "accountable" for the low engagement score. However, read The Source posting a little more carefully. The posting still has the overall tone of "engagement is low, and it's all your fault - we did our part". And, near the end, he practically shifts the blame to the other executives. He may have been a good leader at one time (we'll give him the benefit of the doubt...for now), but he's extremely ineffective now. The other executives are even more worthless. As the engagement score showed, more than 2/3rds of us are either actively looking for other jobs, or are just working the minimal amount to keep from getting fired (until we can figure out our next move). As for looking for new work, I don't think most of us are looking to flee to the first job offer that comes along; I think we're trying to be more careful about not rushing into another "Hewitt" situation. And, maybe some of us have this morbid curiousity to see how this year plays out - clearly the firm will be acquired. It's just a question of who (I'm leaning towards Accenture - I think IBM is out of the picture for now). If we spend our down time at home venting this board, so be it. It's cathartic; it helps me cope with working at Hewitt.
