I approached Hewitt's booth recently at a Rutgers career fair. The person I talked to seemed very interested in me. I also liked what the recruiter was telling about the company. Everything I read about this company on this website is scary which scares me about potentially joining Hewitt. As a new graduate I want to make sure I set myself out on the right foot when I begin my career. I am very concerned about my potential career growth based on the things that existing or ex-employees are posting on this site.
If I pursue this oppurtunity I will be working out of the NJ office. Can anybody out there tell me about things in the Hewitt's NJ office? Are the things posted on this board common across all Hewitt locations?
I would appreciate any honest advice that you any current employees may have.
Thanks

...and I put in my two weeks at Hewitt a week and a half ago. The reason is that basically everything you learn and all of the training you receive will mean very little elsewhere. If at any point you decide to leave the company, your options will be very limited because your Hewitt work experience will not be relevant. The software is proprietary, the coding is dumbed-down, and the requirements knowledge apply only to the client team on which you work. If you plan on working at Hewitt forever, none of that would be a problem and you may very well excel, but I didn't find the job to be very challenging and I was not learning anything about either the healthcare or IT industries. I don't know about you, but I envision myself finding a niche in a particular industry and possessing expert knowledge of it as part of my career skillset. For those reasons, I decided to get out sooner rather than later. I received a significantly better job offer (significantly better than my initial Hewitt offer plus subsequent raises) based on my education - with my new employer understanding that I gleaned nothing useful from the last year and a half. If any of that strikes a chord with you, then I would carefully consider other options.
An aside that may or may not matter to you: They don't even recruit from my alma mater anymore because their compensation package is not competitive with other opportunities out there, and you will not find yourself surrounded by young, motivated professionals at the entry level. Not that I put forth only a half-assed effort, but a half-assed effort on my part was a slice of fried gold at Hewitt because the expectations are pretty low (relative to my own, and perhaps yours). Don't expect to have a slew of sharp, clean-cut, well-spoken peers on which to rely. If you are coming from a prestigious school, it may be frustrating and disappointing.
