I agree that Hewitt (as well as many other US firms) think of Indians and "plug in" replacements for American workers without any consideration for language and cultural differences. I've met many Indian-Indians while working at both Exult and Hewitt, and overall they're wonderful people. They're certainly not stupid, nor are they smarter than US employees (despite what US management will believe). As far as I'm concerned, they're just as screwed as we are. How motivating is it to be hired for work because "your the cheapest alternative out there; the lowest bidder"? You're hired because your the cheapest and most easily exploitable, not because you're the best. We're not talking the difference between Japanese and US cars - we're talking the "Walmart" of back office labor. To me, that's both insulting and demoralizing.
Those same steps you've outlined to improve our software and training to better support our Indian associates is noble, but it's a shame that no similar effort is made for US associates. The mentality has become "lets invest in our Indian resources, because they're the future. US resources? Use temps to fill vacant roles, and offshore as much as possible. Lets cut our losses on US training and development; it won't make us market leaders anymore". To me, that's infuriating. If the firm's efforts to develop Indian resources were equal to efforts to develop US resources, maybe we wouldn't have most of these operating issues. |

How much have your training hours gone down in the last 2 years? Let's take a poll and see how much less is being invested in us as US associates.
